Everyone wants to see a fight, but most people don't realize that such an event is a huge undertaking. The fight should be postponed until the fighters have enough time to train, and everyone has enough time to plan.

So it's no surprise that the upcoming match between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao figures to pull in the big bucks -- in a big way.
But one thing we as sports fans are not known for is patience. A boxing match -- particularly a high-profile match such as Mayweather-Pacquiao -- is actually more than a match. It's an event. And unfortunately, they can't just slap together an event of this magnitude just because we got out of bed this morning and decided we wanted to see it. Mayweather-Pacquiao is happening far, far too fast. The smart thing to do would be to postpone the match until we can make sure that everything is planned properly and that everyone has enough time to prepare.
Here are just a few things that need to be accounted for before this match can happen.
Both fighters will need to train
Both Mayweather and Pacquiao have plenty of fighting experience, but what most fans don't realize is that boxers need to spend a considerable amount of time training before the fight. We're talking weeks, or even months. Here are just some of the drills and exercises they'll need to implement as part of their workout regimens:
- Left-arm punching
- Right-arm punching
- Push-ups
- Sit-ups
- The weights one
- Jumping around through car tires, only they're not on cars, they're just on the ground
- Punching with both arms at the same time (dragon punch)
Both fighters will need to get in the best shape they can in order to fight as well as they can.
They will need to decide where to hold the fight
New York? Las Vegas? Los Angeles? Any city is sure to have its benefits and drawbacks. They will just need to make sure to find a city with lots of boxing fans, and more importantly, one with a large arena.
They will also need to hire lots of workers to work at the arena. Beforehand, people will need to prepare the food and put up decorations. During the match, they will need people to referee the fight, inspect the building for fire safety, serve food and drinks, and help people find their seats. After the match, they will need more people to clean up all the garbage and pack up all the boxing equipment until next time.
They will need lots of people to work before, during and after the fight
Well the last paragraph should have been under this part.
They will need to make sure everyone knows about the fight
Run TV commercials! Advertise in the newspaper! Get on Facebook and Twitter to make sure boxing fans are aware of the event! These days, there are more ways than ever to advertise. If there's a boxing match but nobody's around to see it, is it even a boxing match at all? Well, yes ... but it sure won't make a lot of money. And money is the name of the game.
Money is the name of the game
Money is the name of the game.
I don't feel as though I am ready
I haven't really kept up with boxing in a while. I've read a little bit here and there, but I'm not a very big fan, and as a member of sports media, I need more time to really get to know the sport and understand it as well as I can.
Gloves
How many gloves do you need for a boxing match? Two? Guess again! Since two fighters need to be accounted for, and each fighter has two hands, it's actually two times two: four. They should be able to get these at the store.
These are only a handful of many concerns that could be raised. Everyone is being too hasty about this fight. With proper planning and enough time to execute that plan, however, we can have the best boxing of all: a boxing match.
